Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use Handmade Soap?

See ‘Benefits of Handmade Soap’

How do I look after my Handmade Soap?

Always use a soap dish that allows for full draining. Keep your soap dry between use and if possible place it by an open window to allow for faster drying. See ‘Essential Extras’ for purchase options.

It looks and smells like Fudge! Can I eat it?

No. Well, you probably could but it will taste terrible!!! Our soaps are NOT for consumption!!!

Is it true that there is Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) in your Soaps?

Yes, No… Let me explain… all REAL soap is made with Sodium Hydroxide. More commonly called ‘Lye’ this is a mixture of sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and a liquid (usually water, goats milk, beer etc). Any soap product made without sodium hydroxide is not ‘soap’, it is detergent (proper soap nourishes the skin, detergent strips it and gives you that tight feeling afterwards!).

Once the chemical reaction of making soap (saponification) is complete, the lye and oil molecules have combined and have chemically changed into soap. After saponification there is NO lye present in the finished bars of soap. While all real soap must be made with lye, no lye remains in the finished product after saponification.

We have a legal obligation list all of the ingredients, even though it’s not present in the final product, it IS listed in our ingredients as we believe in full transparency and you deserve to know exactly what you are putting on your skin. It’s not scary, it’s literally just used to kick start the chemical process then it disperses.

Are you Cruelty free? Do you test your products on animals?

Pure Bliss Soap Co is proud to be a cruelty free company. While stringent testing does go into all of our products, all testing is done by yours truly!! I personally try EVERY single product multiple times before it hits the shelves…..I even try the Dog Shampoo bars on myself before I try it on my two rescued American Staffies!!! Pure Bliss Soap Co are HUGE animal lovers and would NEVER, in any circumstance whatsoever, test our products on any animals.

Are all of your soaps Vegan?

Yes. We do not use any animal derived products at all, no goat’s milk, no Beeswax, nothing…..just purely plant based ingredients.

I have a nut allergy – are any type of nut used in the making of your soaps?

We do use nut oils in our products. Where this is the case, they are clearly labelled in the ingredients. Although the protein that causes most of the reactions is largely removed through the manufacturing process, there may still be a risk of a reaction from using any types of cosmetics or beauty products which contain nut oils by someone with a nut allergy or sensitivity to nuts. For clarity, our ingredients clearly list what is in the actual bar soap. If you are sensitive to the certain ingredients listed, please feel free to contact us as we are able to do Custom Orders to your specific requirements.

Do Soaps have an Expiry date?

Storing your soaps out of sunlight and heat will ensure the longest possible shelf life and recommended use within six months of purchase to ensure absolute freshness. We recommend that you use them within 12 months as this is the average shelf life of the natural oils and butters that we use to make them.

Although the soaps will not be unusable or ‘spoil’ after 12 months, you may notice that some colors and fragrances will fade over time.
